Recently, Baidu Antivirus made a bad reputation out of China. Now people around the world know they should steer clear of Baidu and other Chinese free antivirus software company.

According to some censorship problems, Google is not allowed to be used in China. Under this circumstance, Chinese users have to use Baidu. Thus Baidu become the largest search company the in China. When there is only one player in a market, that’s not market, that’s monopoly.

To Chinese users, Baidu software is a nightmare. Some softwares and Apps made by Baidu are even eviler than malware-software. Stealthy installation, secretly downloading, and non-uninstallment, all these make people hate Baidu.com. Till now, Baidu has no official response to its heart-broken users.

For your information, almost every software developed in China has the same problem. For example, auto-running after computer starts, set default file association, stealthy software update, silently popup ads and so on. Because the software and service are free, Chinese users has already get used to these ‘features’. But to all’s surprise, when Baidu got out of China, its ‘rule’ is ruining itself. Unlike China, Internet culture in Western country is much more pure and clear.

Here we will show you some history story to help you understand the situation.

For a long time, Chinese netizen need to pay for antivirus software, but the antivirus software then were different from software nowadays, like Baidu Antivirus software and etc. Paid antivirus software were as good as software developed by international software companies. Then the Qihoo 360 came out with a free antivirus software in 2009. While users download and install it, they had to accept bond-installations like 360 web browser. By forced installation, Qihoo could make a profit by selling ads in the browser and gain a record-breaking market share. Qihoo set itself a not so bad example and other companies decuced it to a never good way.

Wechat is a miracle in China. This app never do malicious job or improper competition. But faced the market competition between Didi and Kuaidi, Wechat, as one of the investor of Didi, determined to support Didi and it banned any marketing campaign content from Kuaidi in Wechat. Since Didi and Kuaidi merged together, Tencent, mother company of Wechat still hold the control right in this new company.

Cloud noting market is huge in China, but you may haven’t heard any competition. Evernote, Youdao Cloud Note, Wiz Mote, all three of them have different features to attract users. The differentiation-lead competition helps them to survive in the Chinese market, so they needn’t use any extreme marketing methods.

Because of the serious competition between Apple and Google, Google started to withdraw the control right of its Android system. The way Google taking is obviously different to what the “do no evil” company promised. And for its own interest, Apple also replaced the pre-installed Map App to Apple Maps.

So we can made some conclusions,

conclusions

First, no matter China or US, tech companies will take the unfair competition to win themselves a well market advantage. The reason they would do these way is their productions have no absolutely advantage, when it comes market shares, unfair competition is their last way to do. If their products can win themselves a big market share, then they won’t need to worry about that.

Second, because of the Great Fire Wall, Chinese tech companies took an extreme way to set up the unfair competition. Under mature business culture, American companies, like Apple and Microsoft has already build its own business empires. For a long time these companies follow the orders they have made, and they know only under well order can they protect their brand share. Great Fire Wall built a unclimbable fence for other companies to climb in which inhabit a culture of encouraging unfair competition.

Last, most of the Chinese don’t want to pay for the software they installed. When free software comes to them, they would happily install them. Payment free doesn’t mean ad-free, they would display a lot of advertisements to users or bond-install other software to make a profit.
